Ministering of Angels

A few weeks ago in Sunday School we talked a little bit about the comfort given to us through the Holy Ghost and "the ministering of angels". Now I have heard that phrase before but that day it really stuck out to me. What is the ministering of angels? Well I asked the question and a discussion ensued and in the end I was still not sure that I fully understood the concept. As with most gospel topics it usually takes time, study, faith, and experience to truly understand a concept. As I now understand it, it means the comfort given to us by our Heavenly Father through "angels" or essentially other people. People that can be on this side of the veil or the other.
Naturally, I have been thinking a lot about this. The past few months have been a time of great reflection which has resulted in some not so pleasant but very needed growing pains. I have had many wonderful experiences and have definitely been comforted by my Father in Heaven through the Holy Ghost and the ministering of angels. I blogged last time about my wonderful family and friends and am still ever so grateful for them and their love in my life.
In the past month I have been blessed to have my sister and her family and one of my very bestest friends and her family come and stay with me in Utah. Both of these visits brought me a lot of joy and comfort and I am so very grateful for each of their sacrifices of time and money and comfort to make the long journey to come and stay with me. It was such a comfort to be able to lose myself for a few days and be able to have such a great time with them and their families, especially their little children! As a single adult I don't get the opportunity to be around kids very much and I have come to really appreciate the chances I do have to be with them. Children are such an amazing blessing in themselves. They are so innocent, and such a pure source of laughter and fun!
When my sister Chassie and her husband Steven brought their little Noah to come visit me I was nothing short of ecstatic. I love my sister and her husband but I am absolutely smitten with my little nephew. I had such a fun time with them playing tourist and visiting all of the local kid friendly attractions around Salt Lake. We went to the Dinosaur Museum, Antelope Island, and Temple Square. Not to mention visiting the best placed to eat around here like Cafe Rio and The Pie! Yum. I know it was a big sacrifice for them to come visit me and I hope they know how much I appreciate that. It meant the world to me.

When Chassie was here she commented that my house was pretty kid friendly. There wasn't a lot that Noah could destroy and there is a little park right outside my door. Well that theory was soon tested when Amanda brought her family to stay for the weekend. I was so excited for them to come up and play with me! They kind of had a rough time once they got here, with their kids not feeling well, and the weather here was absolutely horrible. I felt so bad for them, but we did manage to squeeze in a few fun things. We went to the Aquarium, and Amanda even managed to help me decorate my bedroom and bathroom (which is quite a feat really)! I had such a good time just hanging out with her and her family, especially playing hiding-go-seek with Kaden. That is by far the most fun I have had in a very long time! Thank you so much Amanda for coming to stay with me. I know it wasn't a very good trip for you but I hope you enjoyed it and will consider trying it again someday!
Thank you both for being my angels in my time of need. After you left, I would return to my home and it felt so empty after being filled with your laughter and love for the previous couple of days. I miss it but hope that I too will one day be able to have a family of my own to share such experiences with. In the meantime, thanks for sharing yours with me! Love you both!

I am so glad to hear about your last weekend and your sweet testimony of administering of angels. You are right, angels can come from both sides of the veil. What a blessing to you have your friends near and to have this gospel in our lives to know and understand these things. Thanks for sharing Chanci!

"...heaven never seems closer than when we see the love of God manifested in the kindness and devotion of people so good and so pure that angelic is the only word that comes to mind.....On occasions, global or personal, we may feel we are distanced from God, shut out from heaven, lost, alone in dark and dreary places. Often enough that distress can be of our own making, but even then the Father of us all is watching and assisting. And always there are those angels who come and go all around us, seen and unseen, known and unknown, mortal and immortal." Elder Jeffery R. Holland

This is a quote from Elder Holland's talk from the last October conference. His talk was one that gave me so much comfort and strength during a time that I needed it the most. The adversity we face is evidence of God's love for us. Sometimes we wish that He didn't love us THAT much, but He will always send angels to us, mortal or immortal, to comfort and strengthen during times of need. Christ's angel was there in His darkest hour. We are promised that gift as well. Thanks for letting me read your blog!

Glad to hear you had a good time with friends and family. Visitors are the greatest...esp. when you need a little distraction from life. I enjoyed reading your comments about the ministering of angels. It will be neat to someday find out how much we were helped along the way. I enjoyed your post!
